2019 Election Info

Nominations should be sent to elections@isc2kcchapter.com and the deadline is January 31, 2020.  The Kansas City (ISC)² Chapter will hold elections March, 4 2020 for the following positions.

  • President

  • Membership Chair

  • Secretary

  • Five (5) Board Members – 51% of the board must hold an (ISC)² certification.



Position will be open.  No other qualified applicants applied.


Carol Ross is the nominee to continue as chapter Secretary.  She was appointed after the last chapter Secretary resigned and this will be her first elected term.  No other qualified applicants applied.

Trusted professional with knowledge and experience in security software and network installations. Well-versed in security technologies and related regulatory issues. Energetic and driven telecommunications leader with network security and project management credentials. Highly-regarded background in service operations planning and on-time delivery.

Keith is currently a senior non-commissioned officer at US Cyber Command and is the Co-founder of the Kansas City FAIR chapter.

Keith has served as President of the (ISC)² KC chapter for 5 years.



Board Members

The Kansas City (ISC)² Chapter is holding election for five (5) Board Members, three of the five are required to hold a certification with (ISC)².  The following page includes individuals who’ve shown interest in board membership.


Eric is a Sr. Security Analyst at H&R Block responsible for compliance activities and have been attending (ISC)2 KC Chapter meetings since their early days over four years ago in the Caves datacenter. Eric holds the CISSP, CISA and Lean 6 Sigma certifications and has a Master’s degree in Management of Information Systems with a concentration in Security. Eric has a 20+ year career in IT and information security, primarily in the finance industry and government. His hobbies include astronomy and researching and recreating ancient food recipes. Eric is on his third year on the board of directors for the nearly 800 members large Astronomical Society of Kansas City (ASKC). He created and is leading a charity project with a group of 20 people writing and publishing a book in February with all profits going to a local hospital.

Erik Christiansen is a seasoned professional with over 20 years of IT experience.  After owning a consulting company during college, he moved into academic & corporate settings for the last 15 years.  Erik’s had a range of roles from application developer, system & network admin to his current position as Director of Cloud Operations.  Maintaining infrastructure has been a constant focus, with more recent transitions into security and management Erik now leads a team supporting a SaaS solution, maintaining availability and security of the environment, as well as ensuring data integrity and technology within the office.

Holding certifications from Microsoft, CompTIA and ISC2, including CISSP, HCISPP, SSCP, and is currently pursuing the CCSP.  He is also a member of InfraGard, an FBI/private sector alliance.  

In the free time outside of the IT area, Erik is co-owner and pitmaster for an award winning BBQ and Chili competition team in the KC area.




Cheryl is a technology management professional with over 20 years of successful experience of impacting corporate performances and meeting corporate goals. Innovative strategist with expertise in achieving system security operational objectives by contributing information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews. Skilled at preparing and completing action plans, implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards, resolving problems, completing audits, identifying trends, determining system improvements, and implementing change.

Cheryl is a Network & IT Security Risk Manager at Sprint, a Founder of Women in Security Mentors Organization (www.winsmentors.org), an Adjunct Professor with Webster University, and an Adjunct Professor, with Colorado Technical University.  Cheryl received her Doctorate of Computer Science/Information Assurance from Colorado Technical University, with her dissertation on Smartphone Privacy Perceptions and Behaviors.  She also holds a Masters in Criminal Justice from South University and an MBA from Webster University.  She holds is certified as Certified Information Systems Security Auditor from Mile2 and holds the CISSP.

Donny Hubener is a Sr Manager of a vulnerability management program performing vulnerability assessments, penetration testing, adversarial engagements, for CenturyLink; the second largest U.S. communications provider to global enterprise customers and a Fortune 500 company. Along with a M.S. degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Kansas and a B.S. degree in Computer Engineering from Kansas State University, Donny has over 15 years’ experience across multiple domains of Security. Donny has functioned on both the defensive (Blue Team) side of security performing Incident Response and Forensics as well as the offensive (Red Team) side conducting adversarial engagements to evaluate defensive capabilities. Donny is a founding member of two large Kansas City security organizations including ISC2 KC Chapter and SecKC. Donny holds a CISSP certification.

Sean is Vice President of Business Development for Netswitch Technology Management, Inc., a member of InfraGard National, is on the Board of Directors of Pacific Atlantic Professional Academy, a Managing Partner with Aspect 365 and formerly EVP for OMNi Apparel Inc.  He holds a BS in Political Science & International Economics from Old Dominion University.

JJ helps organizations understand and align information security risk and data privacy with business objectives, and how to manage it effectively.  JJ enjoys motivating by example, and believes a positive attitude is contagious.  I thrive on pushing myself to the limits of my abilities, and strive to be the best at what I do. Singing on stage with a band is a hobby/passion of mine, and volunteering my time to help others is a huge part of my life and is a proud father of four children.

JJ is presently a Senior Security Analyst at eSolutions, Inc.  He has worked as Director of IT and Information Security at Baker University, as Adjunct Instructor and CISO at Seward County Community College, and as a contractor for Aureus Group.  He is studying for MS in Cyber Defense from Dakota State University, holds an MBA from Fort Hays State University and holds the CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CISA, CCSK, CIPM GDPR (CIPP/E) certifications.

Derin started in the telecom industry, holding different titles for over 13 years (all within the same building), 8 of which focused on access control within the network security team.

Derin is a security evangelist and has a passion for all things related to information security and for improving the world. He enjoys talking and writing about the importance of information security in our every-day lives.

Derin is a life-long learner, he hungers to learn new things, to improve, have new experiences and be stretched as an individual-personally as well as professionally. derin enjoys mentoring as well as being mentored and becoming a better leader. "The function of leadership is to produce more leaders, not more followers."

Derin is a geek and is in front of a screen all day long (three actually) and when he leaves work he jumps on his Android phone or iPad tablet.

Derin is a servant leader and has served as the Membership Chair of the (ISC)² KC chapter for 5 years.

David has extensive security experience in multiple industries and environments with a focus on forming relationships, earning trust, building programs, and producing results by utilizing a business-forward approach to security strategy and risk management to effectively balance company growth with the need to secure assets and reduce business risk.

David is Director, Information Security at YRC Worldwide, Inc., is an (ISC)2 Kansas City Chapter board member and holds the CISSP certification.  Formerly David was Manager, Information Security Risk and Compliance at H&R Block, an Information Security Officer with US Departiment of Veterans Affairs, and an Information Security Specialist at Park University.




Shayna is a cybersecurity professional with global experience in the military and civilian sectors.  She is currently an independent consultant, and has worked as an inspector for FEMA, as a Grad Assistant at University of Dallas, and for Sallyport Global Services in Southwest Asia.  

Shayna earned a Master of Science in Cybersecurity from the University of Dallas as well as her BA from the University of Dallas.  She holds a master certification in Infrastructure Protection from Texas A&M, is an Infragard Member and has recently been selected for volunteer service as a United States Marine Corps Cyber Auxiliary.

Britney began the first decade of her security career in the US Army where she began leading a team of 20, and developed her career to leading over 90 team leads and traveled internationally to assess the network security of military, police, and other governmental partners. She now oversees the Information Security Department for AMC Theatres. She is responsible for the development and implementation of the global security strategy, oversees all security personnel, and ensures security concerns are addressed at the executive level.

Britney is a certified CISSP, CISM, PMP, and also holds a certification for CompTIA S+, CCSK, and IT Business Management. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied & Discrete Mathematics, and a Master's Degree in Cybersecurity. She also served on the Board of (ISC)2 Kansas City Chapter, serves as an Advisor for multiple security conferences, speaks at cybersecurity events across the US, and is a Founder of Women in Security - Kansas City (WiS-KC). Britney was recognized as a Rising Trendsetter for Technology by the Kansas City Central Exchange and was also named an IT Security Power Player by SC Magazine.

Information Security Professional with over 15 years of IT experience in a variety of engineering roles and industries.  He is presently a Security Analyst/Penetration tester with 10-D Security.  He was previously an IT Consultant with Matt Lille Investments, Director of IT for Axiom Healthcare Services, a consultant with MMA Consulting and a Senior Security Engineer with Macrovision Corp.  Michael holds CISSP and Security + from CompTIA and is a mentor with Cybrary.

Brian is an Enterprise Account Executive with ObserveIT, which specializes in insider threat management.  He has worked in Sales in radio, as Special Events Coordinator, as a Senior Business Development Officer with Santander Bank, N.A., and with Cintas as a supervisor and coordinator.  

Brian received an MA from Northwestern University, a BA from Assumption College and studied abroad at National University of Ireland.
